Summer excursions in Carinthia
Tips for trips and leisure activities for the adventurous
In the Bad Kleinkirchheim area, you’ll find a wealth of leisure activities and ideas for things to do. At the top of the list, of course, are the stunning lakes of Carinthia: trips to Lake Millstatt (20 minutes), Brennsee (15 minutes) or Ossiacher See (40 minutes), and the associated leisure activities, such as water skiing, kite surfing or pedal boating to name a few. A special highlight is always a boat trip - perfect for a relaxing day trip from the COOEE alpin Hotel Bad Kleinkirchheim.
The Kärnten Card, with more than 100 excursion destinations in Carinthia, grants many advantages here.
EXCURSIONS AROUND BAD KLEINKIRCHHEIM
Among the most popular excursions around Bad Kleinkirchheim is a visit to Alpine Wildlife Park, with its three attractions, the alpin + art + gallery at 1750 m. Here you can admire sparkling gemstones such as garnet, red jasper, and red cinnabar before learning how rough gemstones are turned into ornate pieces of jewelry. The Reptile Zoo Nockalm will welcome you into the fascinating world of venomous snakes, tropical insects, and lizards. The children's adventure park Heidialm also provides unforgettable experiences while Wasserix Sinnespark, with its various spa oases, offers relaxation and bathing fun in the centre of Bad Kleinkirchheim.
For day trips, we recommend a visit to Gerlitzen (about 40 minutes by car), to Landskron Castle (about 45 minutes) or to a summer toboggan run, the Nocki Flitzer on the Turracher Höhe. This trip is also a must during the winter months.
A particularly enticing leisure offer is the bread baking course and meal presentation for families at Kneipp, or mill hiking trail Kaning. Here you can learn a lot of interesting details about the work of bakers and millers in earlier times.
NATURE SIGHTSEEING IN THE NOCK MOUNTAINS BIOSPHERE PARK
The 180 km² Nock Mountain Biophere Park, with its incredible variety of fauna and flora, is certainly one of the main regional attractions. Here you can walk with nature park rangers over the gentle hills of the Nock Mountains, listen to the whistling of the marmots, and learn all kinds of interesting facts about this ancient mountain region. A trip on the Nockalm Road (subject to tolls) is always worth a full day. In the middle of the authentic natural landscape there are rest areas, theme trails, children's playgrounds, and guesthouses. It is also one of the most popular excursion destinations for motorcyclists.
Just ten minutes by car, in Radenthein, the Granatium lures visitors with a family-friendly exhibition on Granat. In this impressive world of adventure there is a grinding shop, a garnet exhibition and the unique garnet room. You should also visit the garnet gallery, the mining area and many other attractions.
